Appliances die. Usually on a Sunday, usually right after you bought a fresh load of groceries. One day the fridge is humming along, the next it's a 200-pound box of warm air sitting in your kitchen, and you're standing there wondering how you're supposed to move the thing, let alone get rid of it. We deal with this all the time, so here's the plain version of how it works.
What appliances will you take?
The big four show up the most: refrigerators, washers, dryers, and stoves. We also handle dishwashers, freezers, microwaves, water heaters, and the random window AC unit that's been blowing lukewarm air for two summers. If it plugs in and you're done with it, it's probably on the list. A lot of these are too heavy or too awkward for one person to wrestle out the door, and that's fine. Lugging them out is half the reason people call us in the first place.
Why do fridges need a heads-up?
Here's the one thing we need a heads-up on: refrigerators, freezers, and AC units have refrigerant in them, the stuff people still call Freon. It can't just get crushed and buried, so it has to be handled the right way before the unit goes to its final resting place. None of this is a problem on our end. We just need you to tell us up front that there's a fridge or freezer in the mix so we plan for it. A fridge can actually go in the dumpster if you let us know ahead of time, or we can grab it as a single item. Either way, the magic word is "tell us first." Surprises are great for birthdays, less great for refrigerant.
Dumpster or single-item haul?
You've basically got two roads here. If the dead appliance is the only thing standing between you and a clean garage, a single-item junk removal trip makes sense. We come out, carry it off, done. No dumpster sitting in the driveway for the neighbors to gossip about.
But if that fridge is just the headliner and there's an entire supporting cast of junk behind it, an old grill, a busted treadmill, three boxes of who-knows-what, then renting one of our roll-off dumpsters is usually the better deal. You fill it on your own time over a few days, appliances included, and clear out everything at once.
Why do so many appliances die here?
Heat and salt, mostly. Air conditioners run most of the year, fridges work harder in a garage that hits a hundred degrees, and anything with a compressor gets a shorter life than the same unit up north. On the coast the salt air adds corrosion on top of that.
Two local patterns come out of it. Garage fridges are extremely common here and they're usually the oldest appliance on the property, so they're the ones that quit. And seasonal houses lose them while nobody's there, which means the unit has been off with food inside it for weeks by the time anyone opens the door. If that's what you've got, say so when you call.
On sizing, an appliance or two is a single-item haul. If they're coming out as part of a kitchen or a garage clear-out, the 15-yard at $349.99 with 3,000 pounds, three days, and driveway protection is the usual pick, with extra days at $25.
Water heaters are the one people forget to mention. They're heavy, they're usually full when they fail, and a garage unit that let go has soaked whatever was stacked around it. Drain it if you can before we come, or tell us it's still full so nobody picks up a surprise.
Will appliances blow the weight limit?
Appliances are heavy, but most of them won't blow past your weight limit on their own. Every dumpster rental includes a weight allowance of 2,000 to 4,000 pounds depending on size, and a fridge plus a washer and dryer is nowhere near that. It's when you start adding tile, dirt, or a stack of soaked drywall that the scale gets interesting.
